The Dude’s 35 Proof Habanero Hot Sauce

I’m introducing my new guest blogger, The Dude (a.k.a The Sweetness, but he came up with his own pen name) He’ll have mostly man-projects and home improvement tips. Today, he’s got his recipe for super-hot hot sauce. Seriously, go easy with this one, just a dab will do ya!

You’ll need:

3 cups firm habanero peppers (checked for black seeds or rot cut off) $4.00

3 cups of your favorite salsa (we like Sadies or the extra hot Pace) $3.00

1 cup Everclear (preservative) $20/bottle so~ $8

1/2 tsp garlic salt and additional seasonings to taste (The Dude likes to add ghost peppers to his to make it even hotter. $1.00

Plus, it’s cheap! $16.00 total for 40 ounces of hot sauce or seven 5.5 oz (standard hot sauce size) bottle= $2.30 a bottle total.

1. Use rubber gloves to cut the tops off the peppers and put in the blender.


2. Add remaining ingredients. You’ll want to take the blender outside or put it under your vent hood because it’ll feel like you just set off a canister of tear gas in your kitchen if you don’t.


3. Liquify for at least 5 minutes to break up the seeds.  Bottle and the sauce should keep a year in the fridge, shake before use. The final product should be about 35 Proof.
