Home Dentistry

After my braces were screwed up, I had to have a permanent retainer put in on my front bottom teeth. Today, I was flossing (which has to be done with a threader) and noticed that the cement had pulled away from one of my teeth. As I was trying to get the floss back out, the retainer started to disintegrate. One side pulled out and it popped off half of the teeth. I decided that it wasn’t worth an hour and a half in the car, so I ripped it out myself. My gums were raw and bleeding underneath, either from bacteria getting under the retainer or from it rubbing. I’ll have to have my regular dentist grind off a few remaining splats of cement, but otherwise I think I was successful.
