50 Shades of Meh

I broke down and bought 50 Shades of Gray on my Kindle app. I mostly wanted to see what all the fuss was about and it’s pretty run of the mill so far. Granted, I’m only through 3 chapters so far, but already I can see the psychological hooks they’re using to draw women in. It is far too obvious. We start with a lonely woman, that is of course, inexperienced. She meets a rich, dangerous type that flusters her. She thinks he’s too far out of her league, but he pursues her with expensive gifts. Then he rejects her for her own good, she’s crushed, but he rescues her from a bad situation and takes her home with him. I won’t go further to avoid any spoilers (if there are any) but all of these are so classic in romance novels that they’re even boring. I won’t give it an official rating until I read the whole thing, I’m hoping I will find some redemption in this somewhere.
