Bigfoot

Who doesn’t think of the legends of Bigfoot when the Pacific Northwest is mentioned? Bigfoot stories go back hundred of years. Almost all the legends describe a big, smelly ape like creature.

According to the Lummi Indians, they knew of two kinds of Sasquatch. There were large, peaceful ones and smaller, mean ones. There are several stories of women being kidnapped and/or mated with. A woman was even allegedly rescued pregnant and gave birth to a boy with ape-like features including longer than average arms, a sloping forehead, a large lower jaw with protruding teeth and pointed ears.

A popular explanation is that Bigfoots are remnants of an extinct ape called Gigantopithecus. Regardless of their existence, Skamania County has made it illegal to kill large apes.
