My spotted shadow

I’ve decided to start writing little stories about my Bengal hootie as he is my constant companion, Sergio calls him my shadow because he is always trotting along at my side or not far behind. It’s strange that I hadn’t noticed exactly how dedicated he is to his shadow mission until Sergio started to point it out. Then I started paying attention and found he is quite prevalent in my life.

He always sleeps on my right side so that he and Sergio keep me between them (I think he likes to protect his mama). He sits with me in my office all day, either on the desk next to me, on the windowsill or on his bed next to my desk. If I get up to get a drink, use the bathroom or for any other reason, he’s hot on my heels. Even from a dead sleep, he’ll bound up and after me. It doesn’t matter how short the trip, he’s along for the ride.

Whenever I leave the house, he walks me to the door and sometimes even gets so upset that he attacks my legs and bites me as if to say, ‘no, don’t go!’ When I come back, as soon as I pull up I hear him greeting me from the other side of the door. I talk to him as I unload the car and unlock the door, then he’s all over my legs, rubbing and telling me everything that transpired while I was out. I always look forward to him being there at the door and don’t like to leave him long.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly what I’m going to have to do over Christmas. Sergio and I are flying down to see our families Christmas day and staying for 9 days. I can’t imagine how rough it’s going to be on my little boy, but I know it’s going to be hard for me. We have the neighbors set up to look in on him and maybe bring one of their kitties to play with him, but I know he’s just not going to be satisfied with anything but his mama. I already know I’m going to be driving the neighbors crazy asking if he’s doing ok. Maybe he’ll be fine. Maybe it’s me I should worry about…
