Weekends Make Me a Little Sad

Sure, I am off work on weekends, but there is also no mail or package deliveries. It’s so exciting to wake up and check my email for a prize notification and to wait for the afternoon packages. Weekends just lack the prize winning potential of a weekday in the middle of the month. Saturday was gray and dreary, so I was a little off kilter from that, but Sunday was a very productive day. We worked on our garden, fixed our fence, modified the cat yard (now it has climbing branches and boxes) and hauled and stacked enough firewood to make us comfortable for a good portion of the winter.  I worked on sweepstakes in the evening while we watched cartoons and made us some chicken fried steak with biscuits and gravy. Today, I’m sore from working outside and glad I’m working on the computer for the day.

Eclipse

While my point and shoot didn’t land me amazing photos, I’m impressed that it shot through the 3 layers of glassblowing lenses we were using and got me a shot of the eclipse. The sunset pics came out cool too.

Holy Windstorm Batman!

We’ve been trying to get back up on the roof to finish it because we still have an exposed edge that is leaking, but the weather is not cooperating. Yesterday was cold and windy and was threatening rain most of the day and this morning I can already hear it blowing out there. Hopefully it will die down and we can finish what we started. I hate having unfinished projects. Here’s a dust devil we saw yesterday:

Some relief

I finally made it over the pass to my chiropractor yesterday and he was impressed with how badly my back was out. He put me back into sorts and sent me on my way. He wanted me to come back in a few days to get things extra better, but I doubt I’ll be able to with the storms that are coming in. Even though it was only noon, I had to get back over the pass before another storm hit. I barely made it before the snow started really accumulating. I got home about when the inches started to pile up. I slept like an anchor last night for the first time in weeks and I don’t even remember going to bed. A few more days of this and I should be back to normal.

While I was out I got Christmas goodies too. I wrapped all the presents I have so far and decorated a bit more. We still need to find a tree (once it stops snowing) and do a little more shopping, but I think I’m left with the online variety now. If we can get out tomorrow, I might get some groceries, stuff for Christmas dinner and to make cookie packages.

The whole state is on fire

New Mexico is ridiculously dry and ready to burn. We went up to Raton to see my chiropractor and found a forest fire going right outside town. They even closed down I-25. While we were there it got twice as bad and was working its way towards town. A couple weeks ago there was a fire near Taos that kept us in smoke land for about a week and, of course, the huge fire that crossed over from Arizona. From talking to friends a little east of Albuquerque, they are having ash falling like snow there. There’s even more popping up in different areas all over the state, so use your ashtrays!
