I have been on a dry spell with my sweeps. I haven’t won any significant prizes in a little over a month. I’m hoping that this means that I’ve got a big prize coming, but I’m worried this is punishment from the sweepstakes gods for selling my TV. That or I’ve used up all my good luck.

It’s possible that there is a smaller pool of prizes since it’s January, or that I’m doing something wrong. I have had issues between our physical and PO Box, but I don’t think that’s the problem. I’ll just have to stick it out and keep entering and hope for some luck.

Doggie Rescue

I went over Raton Pass last night and almost hit a dog running around out in Cimarron canyon. I pulled over since it was the middle of nowhere and dark. I whistled at the dog and it came running over and put its paws up on the bed of the truck like it wanted to come with us, so I threw down the tailgate and it hopped in. I drove for a few miles to get cell signal to call the number we found on the collar, which was oddly a 505-281 number (4 hours away). I talked to the people who owned the dog and they told me that they were hunting in the area and lost this one. While we were stopped, the dog got up on the tool box in the back and huddled into the back window, so I let it get in the backseat. The poor thing shivered for the whole 30 minutes it was in the truck while we waited for the owners to show up. We gave the dog back and everyone went along on their merry way.

I’m not sure how I feel about this whole thing. It was a really sweet dog. Shewas thin, not starving, but it definitely didn’t have the kind of meat on it that I’d like. When I got home, I asked The Sweetness what they could be hunting and he said that with 3 dogs, they are probably after mountain lions. The other odd thing was that when I opened up the door to give the dog back, the dog had no reaction to seeing the owner, it just put its head back down on The Sweetness’ sister’s leg. They carried it over to their truck and put it in the backseat and took off. It was all kind of odd. They said thank you and everything, but didn’t seem too worried about the situation. I would have been freaking out if it was my animal lost in the woods. I don’t know what I would have done if they hadn’t come to get it, since we don’t have anywhere for a dog, but I worry a little that I put the dog back in a less than ideal situation. I suppose it’s more about good intentions…

State of the Union

Is it just me, or did Obama just make a ton of promises that we can’t pay for? In his State of the Union address, Obama laid out all these grand plans for creating jobs and being the US we used to be. All these ideas are great ideas for when we have money to implement them. Myself, I’d just focus on paying down the country’s outlandish debt.

Obama even said in his speech that the American people wouldn’t think much of his proposals because we’ve lost faith in government. For me, it’s lost faith in government and Obama himself. I think Obama could have been a good president if he had followed through with half of his campaign promises, but I can see now that he is an idea guy, not an action guy.

A lot of the ideas he proposed are designed to fail, the parties would never agree on the issues and it’d be dead in the water, leaving Obama looking like he tried his best. He said over and over, get me this bill and I’ll sign it right away. It’s a good political move, but I think we need to worry less about re-election and more about the economy.

PS-Did anyone else notice the end? The standard ending is “The state of our Union is strong.” Obama side-stepped it and said, “As long as we’re joined in common purpose, as long as we maintain our common resolve, our journey moves forward, our future is hopeful, and the state of our Union will always be strong.”

$42 million in two years, really? I’ll admit that he must be a good businessman, but along those lines, it’s pretty hard to do well in business without screwing people over. I don’t think someone who is supposedly worth half a billion dollars can relate to the needs of the American public. When you have that much money, your only worries in life is how to keep your money and make more, he cannot relate to our daily problems and I doubt he cares. What a game!

The Patriots Ravens game was one of the best games I’ve seen in awhile. It was so tight the whole game and kept me breathless for most of the last quarter. I love it that Cuniff missed the field goal, seeing all those Raven players faces was classic. It was utter disbelief and dreams being crushed. It really wasn’t his fault though, if you watch the tape, the guy holding the ball doesn’t get the laces completely out. Cuniff is still going to get blamed for it, but still. My best wish is that he becomes a pet detective and works on mysteries with Dan Marino.

This means that I will need a Superbowl party (oh, darn!) including beer, cake, hot wings, pizza and queso dip.

I’m getting ready to watch the Patriots vs Ravens game and I’m pretty excited. I have no idea what to expect from the Ravens, since I generally only follow the Patriots, but hopefully we can get a Superbowl! I might be generally crushed and non-responsive for a few days if they lose. I’ll still watch the Superbowl if they aren’t in it, but it’ll be for the commercials. It concerns me that the Patriots are coming off spanking the Broncos so badly. Hopefully they don’t get cocky and give away points in the first half and then fight to win them back in the second. I wouldn’t be surprised if they do though.
